10/15/2009 H1N1 (Swine) Flu Immunization Policy Statement - CLICK HERE to Download a copy you can print
We at The Children’s Clinic of Wyomissing are strongly recommending immunization to protect against pandemic H1N1 influenza.
All of the physicians at the The Children’s Clinic of Wyomissing and our children have been vaccinated to protect against pandemic H1N1 influenza.
Background. The vaccine for novel H1N1 influenza is made using the same processes and facilities that are used to make the currently licensed seasonal influenza vaccines. It is has a similar safety profile as seasonal flu vaccines which have a very good safety track record. Over the years, hundreds of millions of Americans have received seasonal flu vaccines.
The 2009 pandemic H1N1 influenza virus vaccine is different than the 1976 swine flu vaccine both in how it is made and in the actual virus itself.
On average, flu is not a mild illness. It can make you very sick and knock you out for a week. There can be serious complications requiring hospitalization and, tragically, some people will die from it.
A pandemic is an infectious disease that spreads around the world. As of early October 2009, seventy-six children in the US have died from pandemic H1N1 influenza.

There are more then 90 types of pneumococcal bacteria, and the new pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV 13), with the brand name of Prevnar, protects against 13 of them. These bacteria types are responsible for most severe pneumococcal infections among children. PCV 13 replaces a previous conjugate vaccine (PCV 7), which protects against 7 pneumococcal types and has been in use since 2000.
Children ages 2 through 5 years of age as well as children six years and older with medical conditions such as diabetes, kidney disease and severe recurrent asthma should receive additional dose of the new vaccine.
Ask your physician if your child need this booster dose.
